  • After our university club activity, we dropped by Isseki-Nicho Ramen. I went for the abura soba—springy noodles with a well-balanced sauce that’s easy to keep eating. The price is student-friendly at under ¥1,000.

What makes it fun are the free toppings on the table: cheese, curry powder, corn soup powder, and aosa (seaweed) powder. You can mix and match to your taste. My favorite combo was curry × cheese—the extra richness and spice really brought out the flavor of the noodles. It’s perfect for quick “aji-hen” (changing up the taste) so you never get bored.

They’ve got other options too—like ramen. My friend ordered it and really liked it, so give it a try as well!
